2023 comes to a close
Posted by Alan Medcroft on Thursday, December 28, 2023,
As the year draws to an end and we're in the period between Christmas and New Year where many people forget what day it is and whether or not it's socially acceptable to have cheese and Prosecco for breakfast, I am reflecting on the past twelve months.
Amongst the many things I'm proud of, there was being involved in
Wonderland2, a colossal project organised by Brad Shaw that saw 175 voiceovers reading a minute section each of Alice Through The Looking Glass to raise money for

An amplification of voiceovers!
Posted by Alan Medcroft on Sunday, August 20, 2023,
I don’t know what the collective noun for a group of voiceover should be but I like an amplification! Or perhaps an acoustic, a cold-read or even a pick-up of voiceovers 😂
Whatever it is, there was one this weekend, at a voiceover social I organised in Bath in the southwest of England. It was fantastic to meet many talented and interesting new people as well as to catch up again with wonderful friends. By all accounts a good time was had by everyone!
Coincidentally, during the evening, I s...

Variety is the spice of life!
Posted by Alan Medcroft on Thursday, May 5, 2022,
Amongst other things, April 2022 saw me arriving in the 90s to interview the subject of a legendary headline, getting medical, travelling to far off planets to sport a false mandible and providing my voice for an Italian pasta chef and for a group of ads for a major electronics company.
Never let it be said that I will be typecast and here's to an equally varied May!

Saying goodbye...

After sterling work from Max Clendaniel slotting together various clips I threw at him to make a cohesive
new comedy showreel it is time to say goodbye to my old comedy reel which served me well, over a long while.
So, I'm sharing it
here one last time!

It’s a funny old world!
Posted by Alan Medcroft on Thursday, December 16, 2021,
Having recently dipped a toe or two into various comedic roles from music videos to corporate films to Spanish tourism and even
prank videos, it was a delight to receive this praise today:
“Had a look at the footage earlier, it is so unbelievably funny! You are very much the new standard for casting and we’ll definitely be in touch with more work.” Kieran Jenvey, Producer - Dirty Jack

Uniquely Unprecedented Universe

As we come out of Covid-19 lockdown gradually and start to see the re-opening of some businesses, but continued closure of others, I am reflecting on my good fortune to be able to work from home on voiceover projects, even though cancelled filming projects are yet to re-materialise. I have always been an optimist, so will look forward to new ways of working, seeing family and colleagues again and enjoy the opportunities I had during these trying times and the projects that came out of them.

2019!
Posted by Alan Medcroft on Tuesday, January 8, 2019,
As we progress into 2019, I reflect on the new clients and new experiences gained in 2018, from cartoon voices on Nickelodeon's Nick Jr and characterful voices for audiobooks to presenting about cultural awareness around the world and photoshoots to appear on the back of buses!
I look forward to a 2019 filled with just as many exciting projects and new friends to be made. If you're reading this I hope we can maybe find opportunities to work together this year and make even more great memories!...

Multiple Personalities...
Posted by Alan Medcroft on Wednesday, August 15, 2018,
Recently, I've been bouncing between a couple of voiceover studios voicing the character Timmy for Nick Jr show Sunny Day and recording an audiobook with Audio Factory.
It's always fun to create new characters through just their voice and for the audiobook I've been recording, as well as narrating, there are over 30 additional characters to voice. I can't wait to share it and see what people think.
Sunny Day extracts can be viewed on the
Nick Jr UK website.

Cartoon versions of me - Sunny Day on Nickelodeon and short film, Puppet
Posted by Alan Medcroft on Wednesday, March 7, 2018,
This year has seen various jobs and projects, with two of the most interesting ending up with me in cartoon form.
Firstly, my voice has been lent to a character who looks nothing like me! I have been voicing Timmy in Nickelodeon's new series
Sunny Day as well as a few additional voices.
Sunny Day videos can be viewed here on Nick Jr's website. The show is about a group of girls and their dog who run a beauty salon and play in a band together! It's aimed at 4-7 year olds.

Quiet!
Posted by Alan Medcroft on Monday, February 6, 2017,
For someone who often makes a living as a voiceover actor, it is interesting, if not ironic that I've been involved in many film projects where I don't say a word! From the music overlaid "Whatever the Weather" which showed on the giant screens in Bristol's Millennium Square over the festive period and popped up on local news, to my latest two projects.
I recently completed shooting for the Kodak Nahemi Awards "Room with a View" with a range of grunting noises in a future dystopian world of le...

Languages
Posted by Alan Medcroft on Wednesday, May 11, 2016,
A chunk of April was very enjoyably taken up for me to record with talented folk in their native language. As luck would have it I was asked to record and edit three voice actors speaking the three foreign languages I love the most: French, German and Spanish. I had already provided the voice of the English script and it was lovely to be able to help my client with direction in languages of which he had a limited understanding (and one he claimed to know nothing of at all!) at the same time a...

Social media and acting

2016 has started off really well with lots of opportunities to perform and to work on the production side too. I have been sourcing actors to work with me on different projects for on-screen and live action work. Plus, I've been able to act out various roles such as a quite ridiculous TV interviewer and an even more ridiculous tree-hugger!
One thing that got me thinking recently though, was how I've been able to pick up new clients and re-connect with old clients through the online world and ...

Merry Christmas and a happy new year!
Posted by Alan Medcroft on Wednesday, December 23, 2015,
A quick sign off for the end of 2015. I've enjoyed a busy December, travelling north and south, crying, laughing and even having a mildly psychotic episode - all in the name of the characters I played of course! I've also been behind the camera again for a lovely client, as well as being touched by some folks' generosity of spirit and riches.
I'm looking forward to an exciting 2016 and to sharing some of the fruits of my labours.
Merry Christmas to you and I wish you a wonderful year!

Life goes on...

A wonderful few months since the last update, with the British summer now a dim and distant memory.
I've kept busy with roles varying from multi-accented voiceovers and strangely attired photo shoots to the seriousness of playing a terminal patient. I've thoroughly enjoyed all the challenges that have been thrown at me. There was also the humorous distraction of a friend spotting my name in a local newspaper article in his favourite kebab shop and posting a photo to Facebook.
Since the summer,...

My voice has lent itself, through jobs and auditions to all manner of things from dwarfs to dads, dogs to underage scallies trying to buy cigarettes and narration of an audiobook thriller to the growth of bacteria in water tanks!
Each role different and fun to research and execute.

It has been a great pleasure over the last three years to be involved in three short films helmed by Matt Harris-Freeth for the Sci-Fi London 48 Hour Challenge. My parts have been great fun each time, twice have included the vital line given to show it wasn't knocked up six months ago, and my roles have varied from hologram, to doctor and an arrogant sweary PR guy. The Bigger Picture

Recently I've been involved in casting, producing and directing some films for a corporate client. It's a great insight into all the processes that go into making any film - I'd recommend it to all actors.
I've done a lot of this work before with voiceover production, but there are so many more factors to consider in film; even something as simple as organising when stuff is going to happen becomes harder when you have to get crew and cast together on the same day.
- Voiceover? Simple, when is...

Working with a great team

March was a fun month with many new opportunities coming my way and trips to various old casting friends and some new ones too.
However, I was most proud of the accomplishments of others rather than my own. I was able to call on my great team of voiceover actors to pull together a couple of projects involving 13 characters in just over one week. Voiceover sessions

It makes a nice change from the usually solitary state of the voice artist with a home recording studio set up. Everyone, I've been working ...
