2023 comes to a close

Posted by Alan Medcroft on Thursday, December 28, 2023,
As the year draws to an end and we're in the period between Christmas and New Year where many people forget what day it is and whether or not it's socially acceptable to have cheese and Prosecco for breakfast, I am reflecting on the past twelve months.

Amongst the many things I'm proud of, there was being involved in Wonderland2, a colossal project organised by Brad Shaw that saw 175 voiceovers reading a minute section each of Alice Through The Looking Glass to raise money for Cancer Research ...

Variety is the spice of life!

Posted by Alan Medcroft on Thursday, May 5, 2022,
Amongst other things, April 2022 saw me arriving in the 90s to interview the subject of a legendary headline, getting medical, travelling to far off planets to sport a false mandible and providing my voice for an Italian pasta chef and for a group of ads for a major electronics company.

Never let it be said that I will be typecast and here's to an equally varied May!

Saying goodbye...

Posted by Alan Medcroft on Tuesday, February 8, 2022,
After sterling work from Max Clendaniel slotting together various clips I threw at him to make a cohesive new comedy showreel it is time to say goodbye to my old comedy reel which served me well, over a long while.

So, I'm sharing it here one last time!

Double Glazing!

Posted by Alan Medcroft on Tuesday, August 25, 2020,
As work returns to pre-lockdown levels and I’m venturing out to Covid safe studios for more shoots and recordings, I wanted to share the work of the brilliant Lorentz Gullachsen from a stills and video shoot for London estate agents, Marsh and Parsons.

Multiple Personalities...

Posted by Alan Medcroft on Wednesday, August 15, 2018,
Recently, I've been bouncing between a couple of voiceover studios voicing the character Timmy for Nick Jr show Sunny Day and recording an audiobook with Audio Factory.

It's always fun to create new characters through just their voice and for the audiobook I've been recording, as well as narrating, there are over 30 additional characters to voice. I can't wait to share it and see what people think.

Sunny Day extracts can be viewed on the Nick Jr UK website.

Walking holidays and leading cults

Posted by Alan Medcroft on Monday, August 14, 2017,
The last month has seen me involved in the first of two music videos I've been signed up to - playing an odd cult leader with misogynistic tendencies! I have always said I enjoy playing against my own character so don't be too worried. I'm greatly looking forward to the finished video as the song is a good one. I'm not allowed to tell you the name of the artist as yet, I'm afraid.

Amongst other things, I was also thrilled to be playing another comedic character for Telling Tales Films in their...

Life goes on...

Posted by Alan Medcroft on Wednesday, November 25, 2015,
A wonderful few months since the last update, with the British summer now a dim and distant memory.

I've kept busy with roles varying from multi-accented voiceovers and strangely attired photo shoots to the seriousness of playing a terminal patient. I've thoroughly enjoyed all the challenges that have been thrown at me. There was also the humorous distraction of a friend spotting my name in a local newspaper article in his favourite kebab shop and posting a photo to Facebook.

Since the summer,...

US television debut!

Posted by Alan Medcroft on Wednesday, August 5, 2015,
It may only be a local channel in the San Francisco Bay Area, but I am still very excited to have had not one but two of my short films shown on US television.
With many thanks to Matt Harris-Freeth and the rest of the talented crew on both The Port and Silent Phantom.

South Korea - Take Two

Posted by Alan Medcroft on Thursday, July 23, 2015,
It fills me with immense pleasure that for the second time, I can say that a 48-hr Sci-Fi film by Matt Harris-Freeth, in which I play a small role, has been selected to be part of The Seoul International Short Film Festival.
The Place of My ?yola-link-is-coming=trueBirth has made the official selection list.
In 2013, the first film I acted in for Matt, The Port, was also selected for this festival.

The Bigger Picture

Posted by Alan Medcroft on Monday, April 6, 2015,
Recently I've been involved in casting, producing and directing some films for a corporate client. It's a great insight into all the processes that go into making any film - I'd recommend it to all actors.
I've done a lot of this work before with voiceover production, but there are so many more factors to consider in film; even something as simple as organising when stuff is going to happen becomes harder when you have to get crew and cast together on the same day.
- Voiceover? Simple, when is...

Where has 2015 gone already?

Posted by Alan Medcroft on Tuesday, February 17, 2015,
The end of last year flew by, filled with a load of voiceover projects, some interesting corporate gigs and a short trip to Spain to flex my linguistic muscles. 2015 is shooting by rapidly too and has included those linguistics getting another work out, with German this time, for an SS officer on the BBC.
This clip and others will soon be formed into a new dramatic showreel. However, there is a small hiatus, while the editor of said showreel is at the 2015 Oscars for ShortsTV. Whilst you're w...

The power of relationships and marketing...

Posted by Alan Medcroft on Tuesday, March 25, 2014,
If there actually are any actors out there who think they can rely on their agents to get them that "big break" rather than working hard on their own career in conjunction with that agent - they need to wake up!
Networking is not really my style. I prefer to stay in touch with the people I like from those I meet on this journey through life. If some of them can provide me with exciting opportunities, all the better - but I have never seen the logic in staying in touch with someone purely becau...

Happy new year!

Posted by Alan Medcroft on Friday, January 10, 2014,
2014 has already got off to a flying start and promises to continue in the same vein.
My team of voiceover character actors have the luck of the Irish as I'm currently completing recordings with a number of guys and girls from the emerald isle! I'm also doing recordings with a few other familiar faces, as well as recording a lot of narration myself.
I have a couple of other projects in development, including a central London corporate gig and have set the wheels in motion to re-vamp my current ...

Back in the swing of things.

Posted by Alan Medcroft on Tuesday, September 17, 2013,
Over the last few weeks, I've been auditioning, working, reading, researching and organising like nobody's business.
Today's main task was a sitting for some new head shots and I hope to be able to post some new pictures on the website very soon.

My main hope is that I didn't look as tired as I felt after a late shoot yesterday for a national tv campaign for a major holiday company. The advert script and story-boards looked good, but when I saw the leading actor's prosthetics, I was blown away ...

Geek chic

Posted by Alan Medcroft on Thursday, August 22, 2013,
A deliberately quiet couple of weeks is coming to an end with a fun job as a geek on a date! How long the date will last is debatable, since the online picture he posted was a little more handsome than yours truly... who said, "not too difficult!"?
Off to London to film this for a commercial tomorrow, so more details will follow in time.
My top two auditions where I "knew" for certain that I'd got the part as I left the room were this one and another geek role for IPC Media. Maybe it's typecast...

Cut throat voiceovers...

Posted by Alan Medcroft on Thursday, July 18, 2013,
The hot weather endures and my work has continued apace and been busy, busy, busy all the way.
I have been recording many voiceovers from my home studio which can get a bit hot and sweaty in this untypical British summer. I'm also very much looking forward to working on a forthcoming short film, in which my throat will be cut and will bleed profusely...!
Aside from that, I've had a lot of live action roles and writing meetings as well as developing several ideas, so watch this space.

The Port - Going Global

Posted by Alan Medcroft on Tuesday, July 9, 2013,
안녕하세요 서울 Ahn Neyong Ha Seyo Seoul! Hello Seoul...

The Port in which I play a hologramatic news reporter, telling of the impending destruction of the Earth, has been selected for the Seoul International Extreme-Short Image & Film Festival in South Korea at the end of September.

Well done, once again, on a fantastic job by director, Matt Freeth and everyone else involved.

You can view the film here.

CineMe

Posted by Alan Medcroft on Tuesday, March 12, 2013,
I don't think it's connected to the fact that I talked about them in my last blog, but CineMe have selected some projects in which I acted to be screened at this month's event on 26th March in Bristol!
They are going to be showing two comedy adverts to give the audience some laughs and also a more harrowing short film by the talented director, Luke Andrews. I am hugely looking forward to it.
