Voiceover variety

Posted by Alan Medcroft on Friday, July 17, 2015,
Since my last blog post I have attended a few screenings for short films in which I've played a part - always fun to see an audience react. Though, the most interesting things have happened behind a microphone.
My voice has lent itself, through jobs and auditions to all manner of things from dwarfs to dads, dogs to underage scallies trying to buy cigarettes and narration of an audiobook thriller to the growth of bacteria in water tanks!
Each role different and fun to research and execute.
As I e...

Where has 2015 gone already?

Posted by Alan Medcroft on Tuesday, February 17, 2015,
The end of last year flew by, filled with a load of voiceover projects, some interesting corporate gigs and a short trip to Spain to flex my linguistic muscles. 2015 is shooting by rapidly too and has included those linguistics getting another work out, with German this time, for an SS officer on the BBC.
This clip and others will soon be formed into a new dramatic showreel. However, there is a small hiatus, while the editor of said showreel is at the 2015 Oscars for ShortsTV. Whilst you're w...

Working with a great team

Posted by Alan Medcroft on Sunday, April 6, 2014,
March was a fun month with many new opportunities coming my way and trips to various old casting friends and some new ones too.
However, I was most proud of the accomplishments of others rather than my own. I was able to call on my great team of voiceover actors to pull together a couple of projects involving 13 characters in just over one week. That everyone made themselves available and delivered wonderful performances is a credit to them all. As I processed the last couple of actors' invoic...

Happy new year!

Posted by Alan Medcroft on Friday, January 10, 2014,
2014 has already got off to a flying start and promises to continue in the same vein.
My team of voiceover character actors have the luck of the Irish as I'm currently completing recordings with a number of guys and girls from the emerald isle! I'm also doing recordings with a few other familiar faces, as well as recording a lot of narration myself.
I have a couple of other projects in development, including a central London corporate gig and have set the wheels in motion to re-vamp my current ...

Voiceover sessions

Posted by Alan Medcroft on Friday, November 22, 2013,
After taking some time out at the end of October to catch some Spanish sun, November has been about staying indoors, locked away recording and editing voiceovers. As well as providing all the narration for various corporate training, I have now assembled a crack team of character actors. These guys have been in and out of the studio doing excellent work. It makes a nice change from the usually solitary state of the voice artist with a home recording studio set up. Everyone, I've been working ...

Voiceover heaven

Posted by Alan Medcroft on Wednesday, September 25, 2013,
Since the arrival of my new voiceover studio equipment this week, I seem to love the sound of my own voice! I have been testing my new set up with all kinds of recordings, using the multiple polar patterns and throwing all kinds of tricks at it to see how it performs... and it performs amazingly! I already have some voice acting work lined up and am looking forward to using this gear again and again and again.

For details on my current recording set up, please see this page.

Back in the swing of things.

Posted by Alan Medcroft on Tuesday, September 17, 2013,
Over the last few weeks, I've been auditioning, working, reading, researching and organising like nobody's business.
Today's main task was a sitting for some new head shots and I hope to be able to post some new pictures on the website very soon.

My main hope is that I didn't look as tired as I felt after a late shoot yesterday for a national tv campaign for a major holiday company. The advert script and story-boards looked good, but when I saw the leading actor's prosthetics, I was blown away ...

Cut throat voiceovers...

Posted by Alan Medcroft on Thursday, July 18, 2013,
The hot weather endures and my work has continued apace and been busy, busy, busy all the way.
I have been recording many voiceovers from my home studio which can get a bit hot and sweaty in this untypical British summer. I'm also very much looking forward to working on a forthcoming short film, in which my throat will be cut and will bleed profusely...!
Aside from that, I've had a lot of live action roles and writing meetings as well as developing several ideas, so watch this space.

Confidentiality and Stupid Auditioning...

Posted by Alan Medcroft on Friday, June 21, 2013,
I love to talk but at the moment my life is full of confidential things and I'm also very good at keeping confidential things, well... confidential! So, whilst it's not very good on a blog, you will have to trust me to reveal the secrets at a later date. Shhhhh

June has been a busy one with acting work from one end of the M4 to the other and some voiceovers recorded at home. I will post up clips as and when they become available. I now look forward to more of the same for the rest of the year!...

Inspiring short films and a recent voiceover

Posted by Alan Medcroft on Wednesday, January 30, 2013,
2013 is now in full swing and yesterday evening I went to a Bristol short film event called CineMe. CineMe is a fantastic night of short films with introductions by the film-makers and a few words from the host, James Ewen. Every event I've been to has been inspiring and the level of talent of those involved never ceases to amaze me. Screening a series of short films allows the night to contain animation, comedy, drama, music videos and there is always something for everyone as the organisers...

Epilepsy Society and CineFeatures

Posted by Alan Medcroft on Monday, May 28, 2012,
Two pieces of news to update here.
Last week was National Epilepsy Week and the Epilepsy Society released a short film a day to show that epilepsy isn't always what you might think.
The one I was involved with can be seen on YouTube here: http://youtu.be/tfzctJGzvO4
Additionally, this week sees the release of the CineFeatures adverts on JackFM. My dulcet tones can be heard on both the Brief Encounter and Western spoof adverts which are playing out all this week. You can also listen on 106.5 FM.
